I have a Ameracauna rooster (Henry) that is the undisputed boss of my flock. He is a big blue 2 yr old with sharp spurs. He does not put up with any young cockerals, puts em right in their place. He guards the flock and does all the things a roo is supposed to do. He is also very gentle with the hens and young chckens. I saw something he did today that blew me away! I was sitting watching the flock after the evening feeding session with Henry right in front of me. A young pullet came up to him and started pecking on his face feathers. No reaction, now that's not what I expected! Then the pullet grabs onto his wattles and gives them a hard jerk, not once but three times. Henry just waited patiently for the fool pullet to stop with the foolishness.
Moral: A good rooster has more sides to him than I thought possible.
