It may mave been a weasel but maybe not. It depends on the size of the chicken. Squirrels will eat baby birds as well as smaller adult birds. I have seen both red and gray squirrels eating "meat" of various types. It was a surprise/ shock the first time I saw it.

Thats not true at all. The vast majority of rodents dont just eat plants.
That said, I doubt a squirrel actually killed your chickens.
