My broody buff mama did good (pics)

Two of our Buff Orpingtons recently went broody, so I stuck some eggs under each. I'm pleased to say that even after leaving the nest abandoned most of the day four different times (because she kept going back to the wrong box), our first one hatched her clutch today. Five out of five.

(dad is a Rhode Island Red, moms are Buffs, Barred Rocks, and Black Jersey Giants)

We now have 52 chickens, yikes! Does that make us addicts?

Our buff has three "babies" now (5 weeks?)...I love the motherly look they develop! Your pictures make me want to start it all over again!

By the way, we had similar problems with her returning to the wrong nest box, but all the eggs hatched, miraculously. Lots we learned this first time.

Our buff is a really good mom...hope you experience the same! It's really amazing.
