Not to me..but to all my other ducks. He's killed 2 of my pekins. Yesterday he tried to drown daisy my buff hen. He terrorizes the lake..won't let any other ducks into the yard. I hatched 4 anconas and a runner and they just got fully feathered so i let them on the lake. For the first couple days he was fine with them..but now he just chases them as soon as he sees them..I thought he'd settle down after mating season but he hasn't. I think i'm going to catch him and re-home him before he kills another duck. This morning I don't see Daisy anywhere..I think he succeeded in taking her out:( I hope not, i'm hoping when i get home she's in the yard..but she wasn't this morning..just him and my runner female that he doesn't chase. Sigh...i hatched him too..he is nice to me ..will eat from my hand, but has decided it's his territory and I can't make him stop so it's time for him to live somewhere else i think.

Oh, that's just sad. Some animals independent of the species are bullies by nature. Sometimes the others find a way around it and sometimes you just have to intervene... this seems to be your case. Do you have any other drakes?

well, i have a drake, Sheldon (a pekin) who won't come to my yard anymore because of this duck, he gets chased on sight I take the kayak and go across the lake and visit him with food. . The buff..who i've named lucifer btw doesn't seem to care whether its a drake or a hen..he chases them all. In fact i had a cuyoga drake..who was a BEAUTIFUL specimen of cuyoga..gorgeous big and beautiful one of the sweetest ducks i've every had. He was hatched with lucifer, they were in the same flock and stayed together for a year. Then a few months ago when the buff started chasing the other ducks i noticed the cuyoga would intervene and get between him and the other duck..sort of a protector. The buff then started going after him repeatedly, and then that duck disappeared..i suspect that lucifer drown him as he'd tried to do so many times. I now have the flock of adolesents i let out that are 1 chocolate runner cross (the buff is the father) and 4 ancona's..which i already know he chases. I have 4 more ducklings that hatched about a week ago. 3 cuyogas and a buff (which he is the father and daisy is the mother) i just can't let him chase all the ducks away. I have a fenced in pond where i work that has several ducks and geese living in it that are rescues. I am thinking i will try and catch him and put him in this pond and see how he does. I don't kow what else to do, my husband wants to cull him but i can't do it, i'd feel just horrible.

How about rehoming?

I myself have a drake with a serious mean-on toward my broody Khaki Campbell... Well, technically I guess she is finishing up being broody, but her babies are just 3 wks old. So I of course, feel horrible when I see Mr. Mean Drake raping her and ripping out her feathers. And on top of that, mom is too scared to bring the young ones out to range. So Guess what? He is going to his new home *tomorrow* and I can't wait!

oh, that's what I'm doing. once I catch him i'll see if anyone wants him..if not then he'll have a perfectly acceptable home in the pond where I work..he'll get food and a pond to swim..he just won't live at my house. I hate to say it but i won't be sad to see him go..he's just plain mean these days.

If we were closer I'd go rescue him, make a nice lucifer meal and invite your husband!!!

No seriously, cull him.

I know..i am a softy. I just don't understand why he's so flipping nasty. none of my other ducks are like that..i mean they all have minor squabbles..but not every single second of every single day. I will catch him today and then take him to a nice new home ...I can't kill it..i wouldn't even know how to do that in a nice way..lol

We had a Muscovy drake like yours he killed another drake and was going to kill another when my dh took care of him, It was like he was rabid, I know he wasn't but he sure acted like it. I hope you can find a solution.

He's Hannibal Lecter! I'd love to see a picture of him!:pop

ah, gee that just sucks. I don't eat my ducks, their strictly pest control/pets BUT nasty ones have no place here.. i'd definitely get rid, if you know a way that doesn't involve an axe, take that route but a killer in the flock is of zero value.
