My almost 3 week old bo love me. At least that is what I think

I know people say that chickens don't know, and that they are not very smart. My three little ones are so cute, and really seem to want to be by me. Every time I go into the bathroom with the brooder they are trying to get out and close to me. When I put my hand down into the brooder they take turns ducking under my still hand almost like a cat getting petted. I have been cheating a bit by offering treats. Here I thought my 26 banties were going to be the sweet ones. Boy was I wrong. They just run around chirping and huddle in the corner every time I get near. There is one seabright that tries to protect the flock by running out and pecking me. It is too cute. My coop should be done in a few days, and I will be so happy to get my babies out there. Then I will be able to sit in the coop with them. Anyways, I was just so happy after I went in to check on them for the night I had to tell someone who would understand.

Here is another picture of all of them in their holding cell while I clean their brooder.

A question I do have is about one of my cochins. He was a little weak at first, and had pasty butt. I have made sure he was eating and gave him some extra attention. He seems to be doing much better now, but he still looks like a few day old chick. He is almost two weeks old. I will post a picture of him. Does anyone know why this happens? He is so much smaller than any of his brothers and sisters.

They are all too cute!

As far as cheating with the treats goes, that's not considered to be cheating at all! In fact, that is what is recommended to help tame them so you are right on track with that one.

And whoever says a chicken isn't smart, has never been around them. They are smarter than a lot of people give them credit for.

I know. I love my buff orps. I have five. I had one that got hurt and when I was nursing her back to health she became super friendly. she would perch on my shoulder or arm and be quite happy.

Now that she's back in the coop with the other girls, she doesn't come to me anymore, but they are still beautiful birds.

Good for you!! They are very cute!! I have 2 BO's 2 silkies and 2 cochins. They are 7 weeks old. A few weeks ago when I went to the grain store to get more medicated mash the person working there told me to switch them to grower food. I did, a week later they were miserable with impacted crops! I didn't realize what was going on at the time, it was in the evening and I couldn't reach the 4-h woman I got them from. I had also given them treats during the day and was worried that I gave them something I shouldn't have. After a LONG night, they seemed better in the morning. I has taken about a week for them to get back to normal. According to my 4-H lady, they should be on mash for the first 12 weeks, their digestive systems can't handle much more than that. Please keep an eye on their crops if you are going to give them treats, I hate to see you lose some to impacted crops. Good luck and enjoy!
