So before our birds start free-ranging I wanted to "chicken-proof" our bulldog, Brandy. Brandy is a registered Autism Service Dog and is very sweet, but even so, one can never be too careful when the newest pets smell a lot like dinner!

I started by letting Brandy sniff the chick and keets and telling her, "no chickens!" Brandy was curious, but never in a "stalking the chicks" kind of way. Brandy actually had 3 litters of puppies in her younger years (she's 9 1/2 now).

Well... now my lovely introduction has backfired a bit. Brandy has decided the chick and keets are her puppies and doesn't want to leave the side of the brooder. When we close her out of the room the brooder is in, she lays by the door all day. She has arthritis these days and doesn't like to go up the stairs, but now she goes up the stairs by herself multiple times a day to be near "her babies."

So... I'm thinking the flock will be safe once they start free-ranging during the day - LOL!

Love the look on Brandy's face! Thank you for sharing.

LOL! Very nice. You "told" her they were part of the pack and needed protection, so that's what she's doing. Good dog!

When I first read the title of he thread I read "My bulldog has gone missing". I'm so ditzy sometimes!

=P This is much cuter! My lab mix puppy is terrified of chicks! No way would she let them sit on her like that! She hides from them. XD
