My Call Ducks ..Are??...Laying?????

We crossed posted
I have seen them mating so i assume the eggs are fertile i have my ducks separated into pairs in individual pens and they are 8 months old.
The breeder who i got my Calls from said feed them layer pellets and she shows ducks so i trust her judgement on the feed.
I never feed corn not even to my chickens it only makes them fat and has no nutritional value so i prefer not to do that.

It won't hurt to collect them and at least try and who knows they could be fertile and i hatch some cute little winter duckies

A show quality call duck is really a fat duck to be honest I show myself and I get all my info from a guy that has been doing this for 30 years I wouldnt give my drake pellets all year round believe me or not it will make your drake sterile he will not produce young after so long this is why im telling you this! I dont keep them on all corn all the time when they quit laying I give them flock raiser from purina mostly it has no calcium! No Calcium is the main thing to what Im suggesting to you!

Where is the call breeder located???

Briarpatch farms produce calls but does not write to well! December is still Fall until the 21st and you don't want FALL production! You want mid to late WINTER production, mid Feb to March. Spring starts around march 20-21. Feeding all corn can produce fat ducks but fat ducks aren't aren't good breeders! I know a White Call Showwoman who is still getting Best of show birds out of her 12 year old drake! he has been on pellets all his life with corn only on cold nights, Oyster shell is offered free choice but usually only the duck (not the drake) eats it Before and during the breeding season the pellets are supplemented with a animal protein Cat food. see your other post for details.~gd

I am sorry for all the cofusion I was just concerned about your calls over the calcium thing I was told that never acually happened to me I avoid it at all costs! But like I said I feed corn only till they stop laying usually a day or two then I go back to my ration which is

1/4 catfood
1/4 mixed grains
1/4 flock raiser which has done my ducks good judge told me at a few of my shows they was in very good condition!
1/8 cracked corn during winter
1/8 game birds feed
sprinked kelp and germ oil on that!

This is what mine is fed when not laying

I hope this helps a little if any!

I am getting ready to switch my own flock over to a new feed I found out about !

Sorry bout the confusion!

Oh no problem thanks for your input here I'm very new to Calls and i enjoy any info i can get.
Thats a very good feed plan you have and looks like you have done the research to know exactly what to give them.

Thanks again and i appreciate you clarifying your feed plan for me

Its just been a long week I have a call with a bad foot now he got the leg band on the wire and cut the circualation off his foot for only lord knows how long!!! hes in bad condition and living in my bathroom!!! and to top that off Ive lost 3 of my best chickens and 3 more sick! I dont know what the illness is either Im think gape wornm so i started treating for that! and fowl coryza I caught from the last show I went too! Ive been so tired spending 4 hours giving shots every night for the last few nights and just starting there second dose tomarrow so I have 2 more nights to go! So Im not all here or I would have started that list on first post HAHA! The flock raiser you said had no nutritional value??? Its somewhat like the layer but only has 1.4% calcuim I think!! this is what I raise my ducklings on and its the best Ive tryed so far! so try a bag if you get a chance my ducks grow so fast on it and featherout in half the time too! My old feed I use to feed everything was like dirt they would grow or lay on it I hated that stuff!

Briarpatch so sorry to hear about your ducks and chickens i hope they get well really soon
