i have a cross bred chick that is about 3 months old and didn't look good. When I picked it up its abdomen was pulled tight like a ballon. So tight I thought it might explode. It seems like it has built up pressure maybe a linked bowl is something. Any idea on what it might be and possible treatments?

There is something called a leaking air sac where an injury can cause air to collect under the skin. Does it feel like air or fluid? How is the chick acting? Is it eating and drinking, and able to walk around? Is the chick passing droppings, and what are they like? Here is some info about a leaking air sac:

it is walking around and it is passing a few droppings but they look to me like they are really runny. It definately feels like air. and it is walking around but it is no longer jumping up on the roost at night. So i know it is uncomfortable.

In the links above it gives instructions on removing the air with an 18 gauge needle and pushing out the air just as you would deflate an inner tube. I have used a smaller 22 gauge needle on a chick that worked well. Put some gentle pressure on the needle site afterward for a few minutes to try and seal the hole after putting a dot of triple antibiotic ointment on it.
