Hi guys
I have 6 chicks. They are all healthy and about 6 weeks old. But the one chick can't walk She walks but falls around She is much smaller than the other chicks. She eats and drinks but is too weak. I think she has a vitamin deficiency. I gave her some vitamin water Its actually for when they start molting. But it has vitamins in it. I looked and her legs are not broken or injured. I dont have a pic, but i will later on today. I will be going to the birdshop later and ask them what is wrong and if i should give her more vitamins. The other chicks bump him around, so i think i need to seperate him

Look forward to the photos.
A picture of the vitamins would also be good too.
If you have video of her actions upload to youtube and provide a link.
What are you feeding your chicks, including treats?

If she is getting bumped around by the other chicks, separate her - it would be good if she can be near the others though - can you cage her next to the other chicks?

What vitamins are listed on your label? If it is human vitamin water, that is not good enough. Poultry Cell is a good one, or you could give her 1/4 tablet of crushed human vitamin B complex every day in her food or some scrambled egg. What do her poops look like? At this age, coccidiosis could be a problem, and that would make her weak and lethargic with runny poops. Corid (amprollium) from a feed store could treat coccidiosis in her water, and the whole flock can drink it since it is safe. If you treat with Corid, stop the vitamins, and resume them once the Corid is finished.

Incase you cant see :
The big flat box is Dovakalk. Its a calcium mineral/vitamin
The packet is vitamins and mineral supplement. (I gave this one to chick today)
The yellow box is furazol plus 5. It helps with salmonella paratifus, kosidiose, crop cancer and bacterial diarrhoea.
The small white one under the packet is Entero-plus probiotics. No other explanations :(

So as you can see, the chicks one leg is hurt, she uses it, but cant stand on it. Her poop unfortunately had a worm in it. It was small and white. I searched the web, but couldnt find anything.

I gave them some Pronutro (a type of porridge, the chickens love it and it is good for their immune system) with some mealworms. We took one of the other chicks with her, to keep her company. They are close friends now. Right now they are sleeping in a box.

Each day they free roam. They have.fresh water available at all times. We give them some chicken feed in the morning. Throughout the day we give them stuff like cucumbers and scrap. This is their treats. Sometimes they come yell at the door and we give them a little feed

I think that this little chick had a leg injury that i did not know of. And then this worm thing came to her. We are cleaning their cage tommorow. I think her immune system is weak and thats why she is so small

Im thinking of splinting her leg tomorrow to help her walk. While imaway the chicks will be staying in their box and maybe ill let them.out on the grass so that speedy can greet them. She is really fond of her chicks

Splinting the leg may help, you can also try taping the toes flat as well. https://www.mypetchicken.com/backya...-toes-are-all-curled-up-whats-wrong-H293.aspx
You say a worm in the poop? Do you have a photo of that?
What type of dewormer do you have? Flubenvet or Fenbendazole?
No i dont have a photo. I'm buying the dewormer today. We only have one bird vet, and i don't think they have those dewormers. But I'll buy those ones if they have them. The chicks looked strong this morning and wanted to eat again :D I'll be feeding them again today, and then put them with the others for some exercise under supervision. I need to go to school, but my mom is taking care of them. I'll try to splint the chicks leg. I dont feel any broken bones or slipped ones, so I'm thinking that maybe he pulled his muscle?

The chick is actually stronger , that photo made him look really weak. He tries to walk, but can't, but he's full of life, combing himself and so on

Keep us posted on how he's doing.

Hi guys
It is with great sadness that i give you the news. Our beloved little chick had to be put down. We called a vet and they said that the symptoms our chick had, was Marek's disease. Or it was some kind of vitamin deficiency, I'm not sure which vitamin though.
I gave our chick some food as his last meal, which he ate alot of. I then took him to Speedy, his mother, so that she could say goodbye. She obviously did not know what was going to happen, but I guess the chick appreciated it to be with his mother for his last few minutes.
We then took our chick to the vet to be euthanized. It made me cry to have to watch my chick go, but there was just no hope left for him
We suspected that it might have heen Marek's , but I guess that I did not want to admit it, because it has happened before, and I know what the end result is. But I think that he actually had some kind of vitamin deficiency, because he was so much smaller than the other chicks.

If you think that your chick has Marek's, here are some symptoms:
  1. Your chick makes a fist with his foot
  2. Your chick becomes paralyzed, they usually stretch their feet forward or backwards when they get lame
  3. They just go sit, as if they are tired of walking
There are more symptoms, but i can't remember all of them.
If you had a chicken that had Marek's , it would be a good idea to give your chickens shots against it.
You can give an egg a shot at 18 days old, or give it to a chick 24 hours after it is born. Usually it is too late if you do it later than that.
Please guys, do your research if you think your chickens have Marek's. Chickens can be carriers of the disease and it stays in your flock for YEARS
