Thankfully it was a small one but I am worried. Will she just poo it out? Or do I need to call the vet?

It's not uncommon for chickens to eat foreign objects. The best thing you can do is clear the area they range from all things not edible. Keep an eye on her for crop impaction .

Your chicken IS a nut

Why they choose to eat this sort of stuff instead of their layer's pellets I'll never know. (Doesn't say much for the taste of pellet's, does it?!)

Could you maybe telephone a local vet and ask their advice? They might be able to give you a definitive answer as to wether she needs to be looked at or not.

If the vet says 'bring her in' I would go with that. I have heard of birds succumbing to "Hardware Disease" - the eating of industrial parts and wire etc, but for every one that does, there are probably a hundred others that just eat the nut and move on, lol.

If the vet says "Wait and see" just keep a close eye on her. Watch for any changes in her food and water consumption, any behavioural changes, and any signs of pain or lethargy.

Chickens are tough little critters, and my initial thoughts are that she will probably be just fine. Good luck, and let us know how you get on.
