My chicken barked at me.....

I have a chicken named Jellybean. She comes in the house every night and sleeps in her cage. She is quite a character. Tonight She literally barked at me. I laughed so hard!!! I am not even kidding, She sounded like a high pitched little dog.
I had no idea that chickens can mimic things. This is soooo funny.

I hear ya! I've got a lovely lavender Orpington who sounds like a goose with laryngitis. Pretty chicken. Ugly voice!

I have 8 girls of various breeds, and they all have their own voice. My Dominique coos like a pigeon, one of my Easter Eggers honks like a goose, and one of my RI Reds kind of sounds like she's playing a kazoo. The other day something startled my Buff Orpington (she's a bit high strung for an Orpie) and I swear she barked. My 2 RI Reds and my Black Star also carry on like they're being murdered when they're laying. It's a good thing we don't have any neighbors nearby to complain. I'm sure they violate the town noise ordinance when they sing the song of their people like that.

This sounds like something you have to record! And then, if you're musical (I'm NOT!), you could isolate a musical scale and create something like the barking dogs' doing Jingle Bells.

I'm sure it would be hilarious!

A few of mine will make a very short barking sort of sound.
Only once though, as if they were startled by something.
It sounds pretty funny actually.
