When I went out to lock up my chicken coop tonight one of my 8 month old girls, Sweetie Pie, was dead on the ground in the run. There was nothing to indicate what happened, it looked as if she just fell down face first and died. I had not noticed any unusual behavior in the last few days, however I didn't see her out in the yard much today, and my 4 girls usually stick together when foraging around. My question is what do I do now? Am I supposed to inspect her for bugs or anything? I am going to look at my remaining girls in the morning to see if they have any critters hanging out on them, but I haven't had any problems with that so far. I am very new to chicken raising.... these 8 month olds are the first chickens I have ever owned, and I just want to make sure that my remaining 3 are going to be alright. Any advice is helpful! Thanks.

Sorry for your loss,

hope she is the only one.

hard to say what was wrong without a necropsy, could be anything. they usually do not show signs of sickness until it's almost too late. you have to watch closely for any signs of sickness, and then it may still be too late.
