so my chicken doesn't eat worms or slugs or beetles but he eats nails. i guess i dropped it when i was making the coop but he ate it. ive seen him try to eat them before but i always took it away before he did. whats gonna happen to him? he seemed fine right after he ate it and 2 hours afterward, now hes asleep. the nail was 4 centimeters long. im worried, i dont know how it can go through his digestive system without puncturing something, what should i do?

I had a roo get a screw caught in his throat. My wife work it out with magnets. Kinda inched it slowly up working one side at a time. If it makes it to the crop, I don't know what will happen.

My buff minorca hen swallowed a 2" long roofing nail that passed through her system with no problems... until it got to the very end and turned sideways.

It puntured her vent tissue and I had to cut the nail in two to get it out.

I thought she would never lay again, but 2 weeks after she was laying like always.

Got my fingers crossed for you.

I do not have time at the moment to pull up links for you but at several (veterinary source) sites for cage birds (parrots and such) they advise giving a bit of bread smeared liberally with PEANUT BUTTER for this type of thing to help move it through the system. (you can also mix oatmeal through the peanut butter instead of the bread)

this may sound like a dumb question, i know the chickens gizzard works using mechanical digestion right? does that mean a chicken has no stomach acid?
