My chicken Miracle is 9 months old and has been laying eggs for a while now with no problem. However, this is the second time that she has laid 3 eggs in one day. The first time it happened was a month ago, and it happened again this month.

When I went to close her in for the night, she wasn't making any noises (the clucking which she usually does). She wouldn't eat or drink a think. Her butt kept on contracting, and white/clear slimy stuff was coming out of her rear end. Her mom, tried to clean her bum feathers, but was discusted by the taste. Miracle looked like she was in pain :(

The first egg that she lays is in the morning, and it is regular, with a hard shell. The two eggs that she lays at night SEEM to only have a yolk, and the shell is extremely soft. She lays them within 1/2 hour of each other.

She seems to be doing a bit better now that the eggs are out of her. But I want to know WHY this is happening. This is the second time it's happened. Could it be an infection or something I should be worried about? She is such a sweet heart and I love her so much. I just hope it's nothing serious :( One more thing, her poop seems to look like black oily stuff.

Any suggestions or opinion would be greatly appreciated. Thank you <3

I'm not sure what is going on, but in the past I think I read somewhere that sometimes younger birds reproductive tracks are figuring it out or redo themselves, and that causes soft eggs for a few days.

The other possibility I can think of is that she doesn't have enough calcium or an adequate diet. Maybe try grinding up some oyster shells and feeding her good things like scrambled eggs (you could even add the shells to that, I suppose) and corn. Hope that clears up, sounds dreadful for the poor girl.

If this persists, maybe call an avian vet? Not every vet sees chickens, but it's worth a shot.

Hope she gets better

Thanks for replying :) I hope that she's okay too. I think she will like those special treats :) Miracle seems to be okay for now. I hope it's not an infection. If I had enough money, I would take her to a vet. Thanks again
