i’ve been making mashes in the mornings
for the geese - duck pellets with nutritional yeast
for the ducks - same
for the chickens - all flock pellets
with different things i’ve been trying . for a few days i put a few drops of nutridrench to help with molting. they don’t really like the flavor.
for a couple of days i sprinkled in a little poultry probiotics. they don’t mind that.
then i tried adding nutritional yeast into their mash, only 1 teaspoon for three extra large chickens (they get about 1/3 teaspoon each) I figure it will raise their protein levels a bit and they LOVE IT. good? or no good?

I'm a huge proponent of giving extra probiotics to our silkies. They get some in their feed, but I want them to have more than that, so either ferment grains, or sprinkle some probiotic powder in their mash.

I have to make three dishes of mash each day for the one's penned up, and one more for the free-rangers. I've not heard of using nutritional yeast, but know that's a great probiotic.

I learned a new trick today in taking this old tupperware 2-quart pitcher that is like a mixing bowl with a handle and making one big batch of it, then haul my silicone loaf pans out and fill them out there rather than in the house. I made a little oatmeal and put some in there. That was a hit!

that’s funny i also carry out 3 dishes of mash! one for geese , one for ducks, and one for chickens. lol
so i guess on the dosage I’ll keep doing the 1 tsp for 3 xl chickens then.

Of course they do. Its high protein, it has a good AA balance, and it has some valuable vitamins (most of which are water soluable).

Yes, its absolutely fine. You would need to add obscene amounts of it to push protein levels up to worrisome levels for the typical feed.

If your bird's regular feed is the equivalent of a 1# cheeseburger and fries with ketchup, sprinkling some nutritional yeast on top is like serving that same cheeseburger and fries together with a skewer of three small grilled shrimp.

they would go bonkers for a burger and shrimp lol 😂

I just had "old bird tacos". Those 3 yr old legs have plenty of flavor to stand up to the chili powder, cumin, smoked paprika, chipotle chili powder, etc.

But honestly, I could go for a couple shrimp myself. :)

need to mix some more chicken and duck for burgers - TY for the reminder!
