We have had our buff orpingtons for almost 4 months now, we love them so much! They are so beautiful. They free range our property all day, and always come running for treats when they hear someone coming outside. about a month ago I walked out the door and here they come, running as fast as they could. OH MY GOSH WHAT HAPPENED TO MY BABIES! My mind was in a scramble trying to figure out what happened. They ALL had blood all over their faces! Dark black/red caked everywhere. Have they been fighting each other? I was confused because this came out of no where....then I laughed...as I remembered we had just had our orchard of lapin cherries harvested, and there were tons of cull cherries on the ground. The chickens had been having a feast of fruit!
All that juice took FOREVER to come off! I've had a lot of company come by the house and when they see my chickens this look of horror comes over their faces. I have to explain every time, NO it's not blood! Just cherry juice!
