My chicken (a Buff orpington)'s tail is down, she has yellow diarrhea, and she looks depressed. I'm not sure what to do. I just gave her water with olive oil in it and I rub vaseline on her bottom but its not helping. What should I do?

Hello and

Yellow diarrhea is often a symptom of Blackhead. I never had a problem with it in chooks, probably because I always feed them raw garlic and other antiparasitic and antiviral herbs, but in turkeys I used raw cow's milk (not pasteurized or homogenized) with the fat scraped off the top of a cupful, with a teaspoon of honey mixed in. When they reach the point where they're not eating anything, that will fix them in the vast majority of cases.

With Blackhead, grains are best avoided for a while, around a week or two after they have received treatment or are showing some improvement; it's also best to avoid processed proteins like pellets which often have synthetic and industrial oils and 'nutrients'. (Canola oil, for example, is classed as a neurotoxin and industrial lubricant, but is used in pet and human diets nonetheless. Other over-processed oils and synthetic vitamin E are also sufficient to subsist on but are harmful to life expectancy in the longer term).

A diet high in fresh green grass and seeds like millet, and rolled oats, are preferred by recuperating BH victims. Fresh and raw proteins, or simple, cooked proteins, are better than overprocessed ones. I often used hardboiled eggs for protein for recuperating animals. But insects are often great too, just harder to source.

But it may be something else that causes yellow diarrhea, which generally is an indication of something attacking the liver, so the more fresh food you can feed her as opposed to cooked foods, the better, as cooked foods are harder on the liver, generally speaking. Grass's chlorophyll content is a constant gentle detox for them. Raw onion is also a blood and liver cleanser, as is raw garlic. But when the liver is under fire it's generally better to give less complicated foods than normal.

Best wishes.

Thank you. I hope my chicken gets better. can i feed her oyster shells? today we went to a chicken store and they gave us medicine called Amprolium we are supposed to mix it with water and feed it to her. do you think that will help? also it seems like she is having trouble walking. she takes small steps and lays down all the time
