Okay. This is silly, but then I'm new to all of this. So bear with me.

Today is my chicks 4 week birthday. I opened the coop door this morning and they were intrepid, but ventured down the ladder...........well, at least some of them did. They've not all been down yet...........nor have more than about 11 been down at once. They prefer I be inside the run..........and even run back up into the coop when I leave. But this last time I left, they stayed down.

Here are some pics just to celebrate their "outing".

As I'm sure most of you know, they will get braver and braver as time goes by. Then I'll have to let them out of the run into the "real" world.

What breed are they? hope they enjoed their birthday outing! love it! im new to keeping chickens too, i have 10 hens, 5 ducks and 2 newly hatched chicks so its all realy exciting seeing them grow and grow!! (they never seem to stop eating do they!)
like your coop looks like a mansion bet they love it in there!

Hooray! Congratulations on the first outing! They are adorable. I was ready to burst with excitment the day we opened the chicken door and let the chicks walk down the ramp.

Have fun.

Beautiful facilities for the chickies. I too have one chickie just turned 4 weeks old. It is running with the "bigs" now. Keep us posted on your babies. Leslie

Congratulations on your big girls big adventure!!!!! My two 6 weekers finally put themselves to bed! I know it is silly but I get excited over every milestone!

Barred Rock, Black Star and Rhode Island Red. I may have one "strange" one that was thrown in as a packing peanut..............so far she doesn't look like anyone else and I'm so new to all this I have no earthly idea what she might be.

They've had a great day. I've been gone this evening, but when I got home, every single one of them was out in the run and they were just chirping away and having a great time. I went in the run with my typical hand full of feed greeting and they all came running. They've really been fun to have. It's getting dark here now and I have to go see if they'll go back into the coop. The run isn't predator proof yet and I don't want to leave them out all night. Hoping they will go in by themselves. We'll see.

Edit:

Proud Papa! Just went out to put the girls up and they'd done it all by themselves the first night..............all but two, that is. They were wandering around underneath the coop chirping their heads off. Picked them up easily and put them in the coop. Hopefully they'll get there on their own tomorrow night. All is peaceful in Central Oklahoma!!!!!

Chris, did your chicks go into their coop by themselves? My birds did the same as yours when I first let them out, but before I knew it most of them were out poking around.
