My chicks are getting bored

Hi all,

My chicks are getting bored. They don't like the brooder anymore....what should I do? One of them (Fighter Jet) always flies out when I take off the cover. They like new/fun things to do. Any ideas? Thanks,

Here he/she is perching. Guess if it got up by it's self or I put it up there.

Expand the brooder if you can. I have a pet play yard attached to mine and they spend a lot of time in that end. They are pretty curious at 3 weeks and like to see everything.

Can you provide a higher perch- like a stick through the cardboard? How about a small shallow box of dirt for dust bathing and scratching?

Perches are great, you can also give them a metal treat ball (look it up) and put spinach in it. Your brooder looks more exciting than mine ever do! If it's warm outside, have them play in the grass, while you watch nearby.

I had the same problem with my first batch of chickens. What I did was I expanded their brooder and I put the heating pad and the food and water at opposite ends of the brooder. They had so much fun running and flying back and forth!

I love those names! I wonder if my husband will let me name his new horse Blamo or Fighter Jet lol. Going to check out your pictures now!

Toward the end of their first 4 weeks in the brooder, my chicks started hopping onto the edge and later out onto the garage floor (they usually just crouched and looked surprised when they accomplished this great feat ) and on warm days they got to take turns hanging out in the grass. I read that it also is good for their immune systems and for entertainment purposes to put in clumps of dirt and grass- as long as it is not treated with any chemicals. Enjoy your chicks <3
