We recently bought 24 chicks from rural king. Leghorns, bantams, australorps, rir's, wyandottes and isa browns. these chicks have more feathers and have increased in size overnite and are even bigger then they were on my lunchbreak @ 12 today. I really got to get busy on my coop and get it done before the weekend. I have them in a 300gal acrylic aquarium. I put on hold making it due to lack of funds but it turned out to be perfect for the chicks. these babies really double in size every day.

i thought i was imagining it, but I swear my ladies are 1/2 again as big as they were when I left this morning

.... I think a few of them are getting their "big girl feathers". At what age do those start showing up?

Mine were about 3 days old when I bought them at TSC and already had wing feathers starting. Except for one, who we call stumpy. She is just getting tail feathers at 3 weeks old.

Wow!
Is it possible though.. that you might be suffering under the same illusion I was last week? When I woke up to see my 3 silkie chicks in my brooder, looking MUCH bigger and very oddly different than they had the night before... I said "What the poopie?" (my variation)... and it took quite a while for my sleepy brain to figure out that because the brooder was partially covered with a plastic lid, and the chicks had spilled some water in the night.. the brooder got really humid and poofed their hair out like on my frizzy days

After some drying out, they went back to looking normal. LOL
If your chicks really did get bigger... then wowie! Is their any food left?

My eight chicks are growing like weeds too! They look different today than what they did yesterday. I'm going to have to dig the big dog kennel out and make them a new brooder. We've got to get the coop/run finished fast!!!

No kidding! I've got 14 and we went from putting all 14 into one office supply box to having to use 2 boxes in a space of 2 days! Now they're starting to look crowded again. Guess I'm going to start having to make multiple trips every time I take them outside to play. Thank goodness the coop & run should be ready by the 1st of April.

I keep telling (non-chicken) people this and they think I'm crazy. Mine grew tails in about 4 hours one afternoon.

At 4+ weeks they look like mini-chickens. Mine skipped the ugly teenager stage and are all perfectly beautiful.

I swear a couple of mine grew tails that fast, too! Of course mine never will be ugly, either hehe.

I can't believe how fast they grow. My 18 are 3 weeks old. They are on their 3 brooder!! This one is 4x8 so I hope it last them until we can move them to their final destination--the coop
