For the past week I have tried to give my 3-week old chicks a little treat now and then and they will have nothing to do with it. I have tried yogurt, banana, spinach, and a mushroom. Are they just too young to want to experiment with different foods or have I just not found their favorite?

My girls get funny with new treats too sometimes they even act afraid of the food I offer like it's going to get them. I would keep trying until you find something they like. Meal worms are usually a hit . You can start out by trying those. Hope this helps.

My girls are the EXACT same way! I've been offering them meal-worms and they look at me like I'm the evil step-Mother with a poisoned apple

. Luckily, they didn't go to waste because my two ducks LOVE them !!!! They gobble them up SUPER quick .... so now that I have my feathered clan all living together the chicks are starting to become interested in the "idea" of meal-worms but still not a "hit'. I'm going to wait a bit until they are a little older before I try feeding them some apple slices. Here's a funny vine video that my little sister sent to me ... sooooo funny!!!! It's of a "lil Miss" who isn't happy she missed out on an apple slice https://vine.co/v/MaBKAD13T2m ENJOY!

Tell me what you like about ducks. Are they more work than chickens? How do the eggs taste? Are their droppings also good for the compost pile. DH says no ducks cuz the droppings are bigger and all over the yard, but I think it would be about the same as free range chickens.

I love my ducks (Qwakrs & Chz) ... I could watch them for hours & not get bored. They make a HUGE mess with their food & water!!!! Their pooh is almost 2x the size of my chicks'. I've never composted but plan to start when it gets warmer with less stormy days. I've never had duck eggs before but have read that they are more "velvety" texture compared to a chickens? We shall see ... Eeeeee!!!

Thanks for the info. I think as this is my first year with chickens, I will keep it at that. Next maybe...or perhaps bees.
