IMG_0823.jpg I haven't posted on here since I introduced myself, but have been lurking and chatting with Kiki and now have been working on the coop for the family.
We are doing some extension to our house to move my mother in law in with us, so in order to have a foundation put in where our back porch was, we were able to save the materials from the porch and that is my coop materials. IMG_0566.jpg IMG_0575.jpg IMG_0757.jpg And my helpers IMG_0756.jpg I made sure they used the posthole digger properly!
I decided to build this under a pecan tree for the shade it has. IMG_0769.jpg it is 1.5 feet off the ground IMG_0774.jpg IMG_0779.jpg
the coop is 16 feet by 7.5 and the back is 8 feet and front is 6.5 IMG_0779.jpg the wall that is partially up is the east wall and I will cut some window holes in it. IMG_0778.jpg IMG_0798.jpg the back wall is up and the front wall will be open with hardware cloth. the north wall is closed up. IMG_0826.jpg rafters and plywood are up, now waiting for the roofing to come in. I think with all of the open space, the girls should have a nice breeze and lots of shade. IMG_0830 (2).jpg now my door is up. I will put a window here. to the left is the door to their nesting boxes. IMG_0823.jpg

I somehow mixed up the photos, but anyway, this is what I have so far...along with a poop board. I am going to put black jack 57 an the floor and will be adding pictures as I go. Thanks to all who posted pics of coops for me to visualize what I want and please chime in if you see something I should do to it.

What a great reuse of all that wood!
Looks like you'll have plenty of ventilation.

The poop board I have some concerns about.
Not sure BJ57 is cleanable/scrapable.
Is the surface just painted now...or....?
The gaps in the back around the studs could cause problems,
and it doesn't look to be sufficiently supported underneath...but I can't really see.

How do you plan on using it?
Will you just scrape it clean or add sand/PDZ and sift poop out?

Where in this world are you located?
Climate is almost always a factor.
Please add your general geographical location to your profile.
It's easy to do, then it's always there!

Thanks Aart,
I was thinking of using blackjack 57 on the floor and on the board and use sand and PDZ. the board is well supported underneath. the picture doesn't show much. The board is painted as of now. It is something I had in the back storage. I have fixed the gaps by the studs and raised the edged of the board to hold the sand.
I have put 1/2 in hardware cloth across the front and will be doing the same everywhere I need. and will cut two sash windows above the poop board
