My Coop Under Construction

looks good mate...how much room do you have inside the coop itself? Maybe its just the pic but it looks almost too small for 5 full grown chickens.

its 10x10 for now but i will probably either add on or build
a couple portables and move them around a little
Thanks

If you are going to put five chickens in the 4x4 coop, it is too small. You also need to add some ventilation.

What are the rest of your plans for the coop and run ?

I am curious if that Ktown in your name is Knoxville? If so, we have LOTS of racoons here.. My daughter just lost 2 babies (1mth old silkies) over the weekend. She put them in a cage with 1 in chicken wire and the racoon reach through the wire and pulled them out piece by piece. (I told her not to put them in it, I built it for a 12 lb rooster) This is not the first time, my mom lost several that the racoon apparently scared off the roost, out of their little house, and yanked them through the wire. I just wanted to make sure your chickens were gonna be a bit bigger. Racoons dont seem to bother the bigger ones. (at least not up to this point) I dont know if that helps but I thought I would let you know just in case.

sure is a nice looking design mate...dont be discouraged. We are all just trying to help. Im a newbie like yourself but the ppl here will really help with advice from those who have been there done that kind of thing you know?

Sounds like the chicken wire is a no go from a protection point of view. The coop is easily changed to accomodate the chickens...you are looking for about 4sq feet per chicken in the coop and 10sq feet per bird in the run if i,m not mistaken...your coop is about 4x4 right? Thats 16 sq feet--> only enough foom for 4 birds. You run at 100sq feet is certainly large enough for the 5 birds you have...in fact you could have up to 5 more i think in that size run.
