My determined to get quail thread

Well, after much talk about getting quail, dbf finally said that we could get some after bills are paid off. Presumably, that means that he's afraid of the cost of quail. Being determined to get quail, I need to do everything free or at the lowest cost possible when I can get a bit of change dug up (I had to quit my job just recently). Now, I'm starting to look for scrap wood and wire to build a coop. We have nails, a hammer, wire cutters and I assume a saw somewhere downstairs. If no saw, I'll borrow one from the step-dad. Anyways, I figure that I'll just post my updates as they come here. Almost as a diary, so that when I do finally get my quail, I can go back and appreciate them all the more, after seeing how much work it took to get them, lol.
Any ideas on where to look for free scrap would be great.

What about craigslist? Also, driving around the neighbourhood the night before garbage day. People are cleaning out their garages and yards for winter and getting rid of extra wood.

I see ads for free wood on craigslist and kijiji all the time. Sometimes even for things like shingles. I've also seen lots of wire rabbit cages that are perfect size for a quad of quail go for fairly cheap.

Of course, I guess it depends on your area too.

Try going to construction sites (if there are any in this economy). Many times they will just throw away perfectly good pieces of wood. Most times they will let you take them. You might need to do a bit of dumpster-diving, but it's free, so who cares?
Also check out craigslist, sometimes you can get lucky on the wire

I joined the freecycle for this county. Unfortunately, it's all want adds, and maybe 10 offers for the past two months.

This place is such a run-down, that I think there's a whopping one house being built, and it's been past that stage for over a year now.

Oh well, I'm keeping my eyes peeled in the county beside us where I used to live, they sometimes get some good stuffs.

I'm still keeping an eye out, however, there's a little hitch in the plan. The bf says that he simply doesn't want quail (wow, what a way to go back on your word), so, I'm going to see if any close family members will allow me to keep them there. The brother says that he'll give me $50 a week, since I told him that I'd get his daughter off of the bus and watch her until he comes home. Plus, I'm going to hopefully sell fertile eggs when the incubator is full, or at least make canned cat food or SOMETHING to help defray the costs. That will more than make up for what the quail cost.
Anyways, the search for supplies continues.
