MY dog killed two of my chickens. :'(

Something every s0-called redneck learns is that everything wants to kill your chickens - they are the original "country buffet."
There is no time for niceties or 'touchy feely' solutions when the fanged ones are clawing at the hen house door.
You deal with them finally once and for all - and your chickens survive.

That's why I shoot everything that comes in my yard, cause no one has respect for your poultry here

I would not kill my dogs either, my dogs protect my grandkids, they protect me there is NO doubt if someone was going to hurt a family member my dogs would rip the throut out of the person trying to hurt us. Yet my youngest grandchild can climb all over the dogs and the dogs worship the ground all the kids walk on.
My dogs are big house dogs and I know if my chickens get out my female dog would play with it to the death. I would blame me like you blame yourself but no way would I harm one of my dogs.
I'm fortunate that I have a large fenced in area for the dogs and away from them a large fenced covered area for my chickens.

I agree to a point, but if my dogs started killing my chicks, they might do it once maybe even twice, but eventually I'd put em down, and the protection I had comes with choices, 9 shot auto, or 12 gauge pump, that's the way it is in my household

, besides you screwed if your dog attacks someone. The way the laws are you'd be better off doing it yourself, less money involved to due to courts.....etc

OP, it sounds as though you have a good solution to your problem. I would still suggest working with the dog and maybe she'll become trustworthy around the chickens. If not, at least you're willing to keep them separated instead of letting it continue and then complaining about the dog. I wouldn't shoot my own dog either, unless it was a chronic problem and he was aggressively trying to get them all the time. What happened at your house was an accident. Those happen. You are doing all you can to make sure it doesn't happen again. Good job!
