this is the first time I've raised ducks. we have a pair of Pekins and our hen? has started laying eggs. we would like her to hatch the eggs, but I 'm not sure if she's burying them or the chickens are. she lays them on the dirt floor of the chicken coop, which is where the chickens also take there dust baths. I've dug the eggs up several times and they seem to be buried too deep to be an accident. is she maybe trying to protect them from the chickens? will this hurt them with the weather being in the 80s and 90s?

she is trying to hide a clutch so she can start brooding them. they build up eggs before they sit on them. mine have a spot in the coop they all lay eggs in. they bury them to hide them. we tried letting one sit on a batch, but she didnt have success. we have better success in our incubator.
if you want to let her try to hatch them, put water and food close to her nest area. the worst case is that you wont get eggs from her for a month.
watching a mother hen or duck raise babies is a very rewarding and enteraining adventure. good luck
