Sorry since this has to deal with eggs I thought this would be a good place to ask, hope it's not in the wrong spot. :) The chicks will be a mix of my Rhode Island red (Red thinks he is a dog lol) and my Americana (Jr.). The Ducks will be a mix of Crested Blue Swedish (Az), and Mallard (Ducky/ Stripe the father).

Ok, so my duck (Az) has been sitting 18 eggs for about 6 days now. She has 16 duck eggs and 2 chicken eggs. I am worried that since chickens hatch sooner that she might abandon her own eggs for the chicks. Is there something I can do to prevent her from abandoning the duck eggs with out taking away the chicken eggs? This is her first nest that she made with her sister (ducky) that we lost 2 days ago and it would break my heart to loose her ducklings as well.. Thanks for any advice/ help. -Storm

You need to remove the chicken eggs from the duck's nest. A duck with chicks? Use an incubator, a broody hen, or discard the hen eggs. If you want the best possible outcome for the ducklings the chicken eggs need to be gone. Unsure here, but what happens when the duck hen heads for water and she has chick following after? Good luck.
