I knew the chances of it being an Ameraucana was slim but I was hoping. After having it for a week I knew it was an Easter egger. This chick is 10 weeks old. It has a dark pea comb(?) and it seems to have a bit of red on it in places. This is why I am thinking it's not a she. I am still hoping it is a she because it is a feed store quality and I know that breeders have better stock. It is the blue one. I am sure the buff/light one is a pullet.

I will post some pictures and if anyone can tell me if it is a cockerel or a pullet, I would appreciate it.

Thank you.

That is what I was thinking. I was hoping for a pullet, the reason I chose that instead of a straight run but after reading all these different posts thought that she was probably a he.

I thought it held itself more like a she and its feathers came in really fast so I was hopeful that it was just poor quality hatchery stock.

I still have a while before I will have to cull it.:/

Frazzemat1- I wish you could take him off my hands too! I have never actually culled a chicken. I don't have enough pullets for another rooster. I already have two French black copper marans cockerels, a salmon faverolles cockerel and a porcelain booted bantam cockerel. I might have more with some of my younger chicks, as well.

Chick-N-Fun- the copper on the body made me suspect a male, also. That coupled with the darker pea comb made me suspicious. I was hoping it was just poor quality stock because I got it from TSC, but my daughter says I am in chicken denial. She is probably right.

I love the variety of egg colors the Easter Eggers give and was really looking forward to what color of egg I would get from her.

cstephens1987- I thought she was a beautiful color and then the copper patches started coming and I figured she was not a she.

The funny thing is, my fbcm cockerels intimidate it. I thought that meant it was a she because they are so much smaller and it is so big I thought if it was a cockerel wouldn't it be less scared of them?

I have a lot to learn. Makes me a little sad that I won't get another egg color from it.

I think all of you are right. My hope that it was poor stock seems to be just a wishful thinking type of thing. I was just watching them and noticed some new feathers coming in.
