My favorite chicken died unexpectedly. I’m devastated

Just need to share this with a community who gets it. I’m absolutely devastated to have lost my sweet, spunky, polish girl. She was a gorgeous golden laced polish. Not even a year old. I don’t know what happened. We had a hurricane come through very early this morning and I had all my girls safely locked in their chicken house. They had food and water. She seemed perfectly healthy yesterday and laid an egg midday. We can’t find any signs of injury or bullying from the other hens. I’m just beside myself. I know losing chickens is just part of chicken keeping and while I would have been sad to lose any of them, this one really hits me hard. It’s been a rough week all around. Lost an 8 week old pullet to a snake a few days ago too.

Just needed to vent to folks who understand that sometimes it’s not “just a chicken.”

RIP Tina

So sorry for your losses. Yes, most of us have been there. To love our critters is to mourn their loss. Spending quiet time outside with the rest of the flock has been the best therapy for me. I miss each chickie I've lost SO much sometimes. New ones quickly steal our hearts too, and i enjoy telling them about the others as I hang out for bonding.!

Thank you for this. I’ve been waiting for the rain to stop to go say hi to the others. It’s been a rough week for me for sure and I know watching them peck the ground for an hour will help me.
