This morning my flock from My Pet chicken arrived, after almost 42 hours in a box I was a bit nervous to open up to find out if any had passed. I placed the shipping box in the brooder so no chicks would escape into the mouth of my Belgian Shepherd, as she is learning this new adventure along side me. I open up the top to expose all 13 chicks huddled on one side while one speckled Sussex segregated on the other, my first thought was ok just one weak chick not too bad. Released into the brooder I observed that indeed the 2 speckled Sussex’s were not near as vibrant as the Marans, Rocks, Austras, Orpingtons & Olives. I placed each little beak into the GroGel…they were not too impressed, but I do believe it helped stimulate them to take after the water and feed more quickly. I was amazed that only after a few hours each chick had recovered and all were doing chick things. I was also amazed that they were even showing some personality, the rooster is perching & observing his flock, the segregated Sussex that I believed to be weak is now the loudest bossiest chick. So much to learn on this wonderfully exciting adventure. Thank you all for letting me share my adventure. Blessings to us all!
