My First Eggs

I was waiting and wondering when my Araucana (who is really an Ameraucana) would start laying. I thought she was older than she was. So, I realized it might be the spring.

However, as a New Year's present, she laid me a beautiful blue egg yesterday. I marked it and left it for her (so she would keep using that spot).

Today, I have another pretty blue egg.

I have the other chickens who are too young to lay and a duck now (due to a possible coyote, bobcat or cougar incident taking their other duck next door). But, day by day, I will fill my little egg carton with blue eggs.

Would anyone mind sharing how long these fresh-laid eggs are good?

How Old was she?

fresh eggs are good for up to 10 weeks but I know people who sell them mark them for 8 weeks out.

I thought she was nine months old, but she was only six months. I had to look back at some old photos to age her.
