My first ever hatch!

So excited that I have hatched my first chick! To make it even more exciting it happens to be Frenchie’s (one of my favourite hens) chick. I have some purchased Double Silver Laced Barnevelder, Ice Cream Bar and BCM eggs in the incubator and at the last minute thought I would throw in that days collection to see if a young rooster I had was starting to breed (I hadn’t seen him in action and he had only started to crow a few weeks before). I was so excited when 4 of them turned out to be fertile and am now thrilled that the first to hatch is Frenchie’s, an EE, as she lays the most beautiful blue/green egg.

I’m officially an addict!

What a wonderful first hatch. I too have Marans (blue, black, splash). They're the best! The Blacks definitely have the darkest eggs.
