I am so excite last night my first chick hatched!!! She's very healthy and alert and I'm glad everything went smoothly. She hatched in like four to five minutes she just pipped unzipped and then she was out. Can't wait for he others to come.

That great news - I'm sure you must be delighted. Fingers crossed for the others! I hope you don't mind the observation, but newspaper can make it slippy for chicks and lead to leg splaying. Wood shavings covered with kitchen towel would be better for your chicks.

All the best

Thanks for the advice they weren't supposed to hatch for another four days so we didn't have wood chips ready so we improvised we should have wood chips in there by later tonight.

A quick question. The top of her back isn't drying out like the feathers aren't puffing up, is something wrong or could that just be how her feathers are.

I am not a hatcher, but I have read that sometimes some goo sticks to them after a hatch, and they can be carefully wiped of with a small damp - something - like a cotton swab or microfiber cloth? Please verify that. How long has it been, now?

It hatched around 27 hours ago here I'll send a pic.

It's the stuff around the top of the head and on the back more is fluffing up now it's just taking a while.

Oh, precious!

Have you seen the Hatching Forum? Lots of experienced chicken people there. I was wondering what kind of duckling had such a tiny bill!
