Chirping
Finally got my little flock of chickens. 6 14 week old pullets. Get them home and put the carrier in the run. It took all of 30 seconds for them to come out. Grass! Green grass I could almost hear them say. LOL. Anyway the first night we had to put them in the coop for bed. The second night 3 girls were roosting in the door way of the coop. One was sleeping with her head hanging done. DH thought she was dead. My coop is elevated about 3 feet off the ground.
The seller stated they were on regular food so I bought laying feed. After more reading and research, I find out they are not ready for it, so I bought grower/finishing feed. Maybe I was over thinking it. I don't know.
My SIL chickens run in terror if anyone looks at them crossways. She lost 2 when they were scared into the neighbors cornfield. If I am going to free-range mine, I don't want them running in terror. So I have been spending time with them. I think my neighbor thinks I am loony.
All but one has allowed me the touch them. Food it a great motivator. I believe the standoffish one is the head girl. A concern with free ranging is there are hawks in the area. They don't seem to react when it is calling and screeching.
Yesterday, I went to check on them it sounded like one was 'purring'.
Funny story: a poor unfortunate toad hopped into the run. The resulting chicken keep away and 3 way tug of way was rather funny.
Anyway here are a couple of cell phone pictures.

This girl is the friendliest always first to come running. She has a bit damage (frostbite maybe) to here comb.
The rocks around the coop are to prevent digging. It is also a great cricket habitat.
