Yesterday, someone gave me six adult guineas. I believe the 5 lavenders are hens and the white one a cock. The only thing I see different about him is the helmet appears to point straight up where the lavenders point backwards. So that's just my thoughts, I really don't know alot about them. Anyway, I built them a coop in part of my barn and it has a dirt floor. We dug a 12 inch perimeter around it and put in hardware cloth. From what I've read on BYC I need to leave them in the coop for at least 4-6 weeks before letting them out so they know this is home but yesterday someone local who has guineas told me that since they are adults, they'll never stay around here. If this is true, I don't see the point in keeping them. Just wanted to know your thoughts on this. Thanks.

Congrats! I think you should post some pics so we can help with the male/female thing.

Unfortunately, my females have the straight point and my male has the curved....but mine could just be weird. lol so pics would help.

I got mine first set as adults (well 2 adults and a 5 month old) and they're still here! Keep them cooped a month or so. Feed them treats every night at dusk so they get used to coming back around that time. I also read to keep them with chickens, and I do. Mine free range every day and come back every night.

OOPS! I probably have it backwards. Maybe I have 5 cocks and 1 hen??? I'll try to post pics soon. I think they are beautiful birds and can't wait till they free range and eat the bugs!
