Sometimes if I hear hawks (I've seen them and they've landed in my yard before, although that only happened once) or if there is a loose dog (happened a few nights ago) I get a "weapon"...like a hoe and keep it close to hand. I will attack something that attacks my girls. Never hurts to be prepared.
