Hi everyone,
My name is Ruth and I have been raising chickens for about two years now. (this sort of feels like an AA intro! Lol)
I live on 7.5 acres in Oregon City, OR with my husband, Chihuahua, Vizsla and our three goats, Larry, Moe, and Curly. We have 7 hens and three roosters. Our hens include three Black Austrolorps, two Barred Rock, 1Americauna and 1 Speckled Sussex.
Last fall I rescued three roosters that had been abandoned on the side of the road at my neighbor's and were roosting on her fence. They were young'uns but have since matured and melded into the flock. As far as I can tell one is a Cochin, one is a silkie and one is a frizzle. They are all white.
I was worried that 3 roosters would be too many for my girls, but they are free range, so the girls seem to be able to get away pretty easily.
Aside from farming I enjoy genaolgy and I am a full time artist. I am looking forward to learning more about chickens here, and I may be expecting a new brood of chicks soon, as one of my Austrolorps has gone broody!
