Had my first what I would consider a successful hatch yesterday. Initially started with 15 eggs. 2 were not fertile, one blew in incubator and one pipped out the side through a vein. 11 are healthy. Roos I dont need. These chicks daddy is a black copper marans. Mommy is either RIR or a sussex. I have some chicks of each. Initially I wing sexed. I came up with 9 girls 2 boys. I banded them. I couldn't believe my good fortune so I decided to research vent sexing. Watched some videos and did it. Its Surprisingly simple if you dont mind being a bit rough on the chicks. Try to make it up with treats later. The same 2 roos that I had wing sexed I also vent sexed as roos. Plus one I thought was a hen wasnt. So my official count is 3 roos out of 11 chicks. Cant complain.
