I made this for the girls. I wanted something that would stay clean and provide water for a long time. I made a wooden handle so the hanging chain wouldn't slide and I added some scrap blocks of wood to the bottom to protect the nipples. So far so good.

I really like the idea of the feet on the bottom. That is one of the main reasons I originally went with the horizontal nipples initially. I needed a way to sit the bucket down when filling it.
 
Gluing wood scraps as feet was the easiest way I could think of to eliminate the problem of not being able to set it down.

I just made the waterer so I haven't treated it with anything. My plan was to scrub and rinse it when refilling. Maybe a little apple cider vinegar? I am open to suggestions.
 
I was wondering myself, because i will be adding 3 chicks to the 4 I already have and this would guarantee water for everyone!
