My flock got NPIP Tested today!

I would recommend getting your flock tested! I have "piece of mind" now that is has been done!

I have been told in order to "legally" ship eggs of chicks through the mail you must be NPIP. Is this true? Thanks!

Yes it's true. Plus, some states require an extra permit beyond NPIP in order for you to ship into their state.

It may give you peace of mind that your birds dont have pullorum or typhoid, but those diseases are mostly eradicated here in the US anyway. Now, if they tested for mycoplasmosis along with that, it would make more sense, since that is very common. The purpose of NPIP was a government program to protect the food supply, though, not to certify that backyard flocks are disease free (which it cannot since it doesn't test for the most common diseases of poultry). But, yep, you're supposed to be NPIP to ship across state lines, I understand. I dont ship live birds or hatching eggs so I have no plans to become NPIP at this time.
