When you went to clean the coop of the dead chickens...... did you take pictures? So the owner can get a good idea of what really happened to their bird. That plastic wire is fine for keeping chickens in - does nothing to keep animals out. They really need to upgrade to hardware cloth. even regular chicken wire is weak and really only keeps the birds in. Myself - I take pictures of everything so i can reference it later. Maybe is the guy who built the coop and run had to clean up a bad mess like that.... he would be more willing to spend the extra money for the right materials.

By helping them understand what has happended and how they can stop it from happening again, you can rest easy that you have done what you could do. On the other hand.... they are out of town, If you got time and the materials, just go fix it up for them. After all you took the time to clean up the coop. why not go the extra step and make it safe for them too?

I do realize thats a lot to do, but it is one option.
Just my $.02

Unregistered [/i]and untaxed means it's up for grabs??

Yes, in this state it does, especially when you have multiple persons/households caring for the animal because the claiming owners lack of treatment and failure to follow registration laws.

Like I stated before, due to the claiming owners actions or lack there of, legally, if another party had reported the condition of these animals, since I had previously paid for vet care and provided food, I could have been deemed a partial owner and held just as responsible as for the animals condition.

Quote:
I personally, nor the laws here, consider rehoming an animal you have a partial ownership interest in as stealing. I used the term "stole" in my first post to describe how the claiming owner must have felt. You are entitled to your opinion and if you view me as a thief that's fine.

And no, I have and would step in on family and neighbors quicker than a total stranger when it comes to abuse of anything or one. At least with people I know, I can accurately judge their capability to know the difference between abuse and proper care.

I think you're talking in circles. You claim partial ownership because you fed an animal? You paid vet bills for an animal that isn't your responsibility, yet let it go back to a place you deem(in your opinion) to be unfit?

My neighbor has a dog that lives on a chain. It has shelter and is fed and watered regularly. Other than that it gets zero attention. I disagree with this personally, but have no right to take his dog.

Curiously, what animals, besides perhaps dogs, require registration and taxation in WV?

With that note, I'm going to close this thread. Seems that it's becoming too argumentative and not accomplishing much. Thanks for your participation, folks. I hope the OP got enough food for thought.
