Hamilton is a four year old boxer/pointer mix. We got him when he was two. I really wanted him to be a companion to my then 5 yr old son, but this dog was a momma’s from the start. He was so hyper and still a giant puppy when we got him, but this guy has come so far, behavior wise. I’m so proud of him. He’s by far the best behaved dog in our neighborhood. EVERYONE told me if we got chickens he would kill them. People who’d never met him, BTW! But I knew he wouldn’t. I really got into birdwatching last summer and quickly trained him not to chase birds out of our yard. Squirrels he can chase to to his hearts content, but he leaves birds alone. He’s been an angel with the chickies! They were in a brooder in our living room and the most he ever did was sniff them. Not that I’d leave them unsupervised together. Now I just need to teach him not to hurt baby bunnies. He’s killed two this summer.
We also have a nine year old female cat named Abbey. She was my first baby. Her mother was a feral in the cat colony I maintained, one I hadn’t gotten around to TNRing. I looked out my window one day and she was laying unresponsive in the parking lot of our apartment. I took her to the vet immediately and they said she had a virus and was dehydrated, so I had to give her iv fluids and a shot (antiviral, maybe? Can’t remember) every day for a while. She was so tiny and sick, and pretty ugly TBH. Now she’s a beautiful, soft, sweet old lady. That first pic of Abbey is her in her litter box, shed always been outside, so she would sleep and lay in her litter box. I realized though, she loved my comforter (pic 3) so I cut a square off, put it in a little box and she started sleeping there! (Pic 2)
I also have an actual, nonfurry, nonfeathered baby, well, almost 8 years old. I’ll post about him at some point.
