One of my hens, SG Dorking, 8 weeks old, is having trouble breathing.
What I have done under my intuition and some good advise of folks from the FB page is:
I isolated her from the flock
She was having difficulty breathing (mouth breathing), she was coughing/sneezing pretty regularly. . .
I have administered Quick Chick (electrolytes) first day. . .
I have given duramycin 3 doses
I have given olive oil 2 doses (after the last dose she really had a coughing "fit"- but finally settled down
I have attempted to check for gapeworms. . .didn't see anything in her throat (Could I see the worms?) All pink
Crop seems to be normal, soft, not hard but not squishy
This began on Sat afternoon.
She is perky and is eating feed/tomatoes/meal worms and drinking water.
Her feces are normal.
Since I began with the duramycin/olive oil. . .her sides are not heaving as much with each breath, although she has developed a whistle, coughing seems to be subsiding. . .
Any other ideas?
Do I continue this treatment? From everything I've read, if this was serious infection or gape worms, she would probably have died by now. . . and might still yet.
