That is terrible, sorry. My chickens definitely had cliques and it was really funny to see them in their little groups. Not sure if getting another one the same color would work but you can always try. You cant go wrong with more BYCs. (quarantine any new fowl for at least 3 days and observe health). I am very sorry you lost them, the thing to know is the hawk will be back get some hardware cloth over where they where taken please

The most common reason chickens won't go to the place where the tragedy happened is because they worry that the hawk will come back and they believe the area is unsafe and the fact that her poor sis sadly passed away does not help but as they said before it will get better over time. One thing you might want to look out for is whether she is still eating someone I know had the same problem and the relative of the chicken became lethargic due to not eating so you might want to check if she is still eating. I hope this helps

Update: The girls are feeling better and safer. We have taken more measures to secure the area with chicken wire, where the hawk came. We also have a new rule to let the girls out with our pittie so they have a guard dog at all times with them as of now. They sleep in a coop that's on the other side of where the killing took place. They have been going around the area and have been feeling more confident and safer with the doggie being outside.

When this happened leaving my EE all alone she was also duly terrified. I got 2 ready to start laying, one looked just like the Barred Rock friend she had lost. The other was a hefty size red ranger.
The newbies came from the same flock and were known to each other and it was required to buy a minimum of 2. RR took on lookout duty straight away. BR being younger than the one the hawk killed not only was more docile than the deceased (which had just started laying and pecking the EE in a bid for dominance) but looked similar enough that EE was happily relieved - fooled and got off to a great start having dominance restored to her sans competition. The RR is relatively a dumb eating machine at this point, but too big for hawk and unafraid to leave coop first for treats.
