So I wanted to thank you all for the help you gave me starting out with my chickens, Goldie and Stella. I received them at 1 day old and now they are 7 weeks old. I free range them everyday for about 2 hours or until they head back to the coop on their own. I even started to fodder (I think that's the right term) because winter is coming and they wont have any greens in the yard to munch on. Last week I had a scare, Goldie ate a bolt, about 1/4 inch. No sharp edges. I followed her around and checked through all the poop I could find to see if she passed it, I never found it, maybe it will turn up in her first egg, lol, but she has not missed a beat. Her crop is empty in the morning and full after breakfast. She is still eating, playing and very vibrant, that was a week ago. I am hoping she is out of the woods with that situation, then I scoured my yard for anything like that so I (and they) don't have to go through that again (although I think I was more nerve racked than they were). My coop is double sided because I am expecting 2 new chickens already 6 weeks old, Betty and Wilma. They have to be quarantined for a month and I figured I would just build them their own place. I connected the two, but there is wire mesh separating them, until the month is up and I have introduced them properly. I put it on wheels so I can roll it in the sun occasionally, and for cleaning purposes. I am becoming a pro, but there is still lots for me to learn. Even though I live in Brooklyn, there is a racoon that comes around every night, I don't think she knows the chickens are there yet, or my dog's scent is keeping her at bay.
