I got my chickens from a friend a little over a year ago and in the entire time I've had them they simply refuse to eat any feed I put out unless there is no choice.
I even tried three or four different brands and styles(pellets and crumbles). They are free ranged during the day and I keep the feeder close to the house but it will sit for weeks without being touched. They are keeping their weight on and still laying thick shelled eggs so I'm not too worried about it but I just thought it was funny. I even had to process a roo a week or so ago (my first time processing a chicken EVER) and I was amazed at how golden the fat was on him.
We live in the middle of a few hundred acres so it's not like they lack for room to roam. Does anyone else have chickens that refuse to eat their feed or are my chickens just picky? Should I put out any supplements or anything? Sorry if I ramble. I spent all day in the garden and I'm exhausted.
