AGeese
Free Ranger
In my short number of years free ranging, sharing space with hawks, coyotes, eagles, possum, raccoons, and so on, I have lost 1 goose to a mystery predator (a neighbor was hit much harder) about a year ago. Everything carried on, and I continued with my plans of securing the property, but now we were again under attack before our very eyes.
a stray Husky from out of nowhere...
Ironically the day the run I had going up for the chickens was just getting finished. They were to be in there when I can't keep an eye on them. My intention was toward finishing the fence around my property so that I can keep everyone free, but within my boundaries and finally get a LSGD.
But instead of the plan falling into place, this dog comes out of nowhere with my family and some other contractors all outside in broad daylight and bites into my poor Lady. Feathers were everywhere! The flock scattered, my mom screamed, the dog bolted, and Lady ran off to hide.
I found her with puncture wounds on her back hiding in the tall grass, one was pretty good sized that tore skin. Thankfully I got her to my vet who gave her an antibiotic and stitched her up, she's now been in the porch a week healing up just fine.
To top it off the geese who should have been the fall guys & gals are secured in my backyard (with the farmer's crops coming up I can't let them wander all over). So the girls were on their own doing what they normally do enjoying life.
I don't know who's dog this was, but I've visited both my neighbors and if this dog comes back for any of our birds the Deputy has stated we're in the clear to shoot. I hope that doesn't happen because of someone's potential negligence.
Until then the flock is secure in the garage now. Gave them a break today and let them come out for some sun bathing.
