I incubated 12 eggs and only 1 hatched. It isn't eating and the only time I can get it to drink is when I put it's beak in water in my hand. Anything I can do?

First ~ WELCOME to BYC!!!!! sorry you are here on a sad note, but stick around it is a good group of friends to have.

If it is the only to keet to hatch, it may not make it, sorry. When they don't hatch out strong & healthy they usually don't thrive. Did you assist it in hatching? The only time I assist is if I see dry feathers, meaning if it has had its wing or other part sticking out long enough to be totally dry the shell MUST be stuck.
I am assuming you had temperature or humidity problems during incubation for it to be the only one that made it. Was there any factors that caused concern during incubation?

Hi Lilakate,

So sorry to here your one and only hatchling isn't doing well. How old is it? They do not need food and water for the first three days but after wards they need to have fresh water with some electrolytes, and turkey starter to begin with. Can you give us more information?

Also check on the list of topics that BYC offers about hatching and raising chickens to see if there is anything else you might find. I am new to this so I am NO expert. But some one else will probably be on to offer better advice.

Best of luck.

It hatched Saturday. It is chirping quite loudly though! I can get it to drink a little water from my hand but not much. As far as I can tell, it hasn't pooped any. The poor little thing just isn't moving around like it should. Is there any other thing that I can try to feed it?

If it is chirping it is either cold or lonely or both. You can move the heat lamp down & give it a tiny stuffed animal or a feather duster. They hate being alone.
Hope he improves soon.

So far it's doing better!! With a little bit of TLC!! It has been eating yogurt and food and drinking more! I hope it continues to thrive!
