Yesterday afternoon, I returned to the farm to see two blueys standing next to the barn noisy and agitated. Instantly, my heart sank - where is my third bluey? They are never apart!

I ran down to our pond and found nothing. I called and searched in the cattails to find nothing. "Weep, weep, weep" and no response. I immediately went numb.

Two days prior, I had noticed a small pile of fox droppings on our horse manure pile and kept my eye out for it - nothing. Apparently, in broad daylight between 2 and 5 my bluey was taken. The only thing, I found was a few feathers in a clump.

I am so sad.....

:hugs I'm so sorry.

Thanks, for the hugs. I didn't realize losing a ducky could be this hard.

When I went to the barn this morning, I had a thought in the way back of my mind that my babe would be sitting in the aisle - ticked off that she wasn't with the others. I called and called for my bluey - but nothing.

Today, I bought a 40 gallon tub and will make a nice enclosure for my two remaining babes. Here are the 3 by the barn about a week ago

The one gone missing was the one with the teal feather - the other two are besides themselves. Me too....

Think what you want but if that was a fox and he killed your blue HE WILL BE BACK! once they find a easy meal they will keep coming back until the food is gone. Take steps to protect your birds NOW.

I'm sorry, she was a beautifu girl.

We had a close call at about 4:00 pm one day last February. I looked up to see a fox was chasing the ducks across our yard as I was standing there, I screamed as they came near me, the fox ran off but came back for a second time, screamed again with the same result. I opened the duck house and the ducks instantly ran in. The next morning I couldn't bear to let them out into the yard so they lived in the back bedroom,

until we got an electric fence erected around a large pen area. Haven't seen the fox since we turned on the fence.
Good luck with your predator proofing!!

awwwww I am so sorry for you and your other babies...they will be upset for a bit too.

Good going on building the enclosure, I absolutely cannot let mine free range without me out there because of the danged foxes.
