Hello! My hens sleep on a wood ladder inside the coop. Our coop is like a run but it has a roof on half of its side and the rest of the coop has wire on it. the ladder is on the side with out the roof, and the chickens climb the latter to the highest step and sleep their. (they dont have an actual house) They were sleeping fine, but recently, I have noticed that one of my hens clucks about every hour in the middle of the night. Its still on the ladder, it just makes a cluck. Does this mean shes having a bad dream... or their is a predator.. or what? I have checked for signs of predators and havnt seen any! Please reply with anything you might know about this. THANKS

They may not leave a 'sign'.
I hope your coop/run is secure.
Why is the roosting ladder on the side without a roof, does it never rain where you are?

So...Welcome to BYC! @newtimechickencarer

well, to be honest, we made them a little area to sleep, but they like the latter better. I will change the latter to be under the roof and re- design the coop ASAP. I am leaving on vacation soon and I am worried a predator might be lurking around... do you suggest getting motion sensor lights or would some lights that stay on all night be better? (Im getting solar lights)… Thank you so much for your help!

and also, would covering around the latter with a tarp or something help? If it helps, I can post a pic of the coop
